Application and mixing of poultry manure with humid straw

In this technological operation, it’s important to observe two fundamental aspects. First – try to apply the poultry manure in an amount which is calculated based on the composed compost formula. Second aspect – distribute this amount of poultry manure as uniformly as possible in the mass of straw. The most optimal option to carry out this technological operation – is synchronizing the poultry manure supply in a calculated amount along with the movement of straw along the compost filling line. The amount of supplied manure depends on the supplied straw’s volume. The only thing left is watching the bunkers for supplying manure and straw fill up. In practice, unfortunately, this doesn’t happen often, and the quality of work directly depends on the human factor, namely the worker, who is responsible for the application of manure.

Mixing of manure with the straw can be carried out in different ways. The longer and the more thorough the mixing is, the better. The choice of an option is determined by the technological capabilities and the economical advisability.

The following question might occur – Why is manure applied to moist straw, but not while it’s dry, before it’s humidified? The reason for this is that with the existing technology and equipment for compost filling, considerable loss of manure is possible. At first, it can be simply spilled out of the straw, or washed out when the straw is watered (for the same reason, it is unadvisable to water the straw again, after the poultry manure has been applied). When applying the manure to moist straw, its particles stick to the straw and become preserved in the total mass.
