Cultivation in blocks

In the last few years many mushroom growers are beginning to cultivate mushrooms in blocks (briquettes). It happens because many mushroom cultivation farms prefer working with purchased compost. Prepared compost is pressed and packed in a shrinkable film. These briquettes are easier to transport, they are easily laid in a car in big amounts, unlike bags, and especially loose compost.

Blocks can be used in shelf and container systems, where they are placed on shelves or trays. Even though the blocks are laid by means of hand labour, a machine to apply and loosen the casing layer can be used for mushroom cultivation on shelves. Furthermore, the work with prepared blocks doesn’t require machinery to fill the compost into the shelves or on trays. And of course, it’s much cheaper and easier to just cultivate mushrooms on the mushroom farm, without producing compost, provided that high quality compost is available for sale for a reasonable cost.
