The pH level of the casing layer

An average optimal pH level for mycelium growth according to scientific research ranges from 6.7 to 7.7. But when the pH level is lower than 7, various kinds of green molds (Trichoderma) might appear in the casing layer, the lower the pH level, the higher the possibility of contamination.

That is why the pH level of the mixture is usually made a little higher – 7.2-7.5.

The pH level should be measured after mixing the primary materials and bringing the mixture to an optimal humidity (taking into account the preservation of the mixture’s structure as it is applied).
