Green molds often colonize the wooden surfaces of shelves and containers, especially after they’ve been steamed. The growth of this mold starts as an abundant development of white mycelium, which turns green after 2-4 days as the spores develop. The extensive colonization of the container tree often leads to an appearance of spots on mushroom caps, especially those which grow near the edge. These spots are light brown in color and they don’t have clearly delineated boundaries. This worsens the marketable quality of mushrooms. Therefore, in order to save the yield, all wooden equipment that is used on a mushroom farm must be watched closely:
- Containers have to be thoroughly cleaned after steaming in the end of each cultivation cycle, it’s also good to combine steaming and chemical treatment;
- Store clean containers in a special place, used containers can be easily infected again, if they are left anywhere on the farm before being used again.
